Estimation of liquefaction potential of soil using Neuro-Fuzzy Techniques [ pp 01-11]

Tiwari Nisheet, Mishra Chandramani, Rajput S.P.S.
Abstract: Liquefaction of loose, saturated granular soils during earthquake poses a major hazard in many region of the world. The determination of liquefaction potential of soil induce by earthquake is a major concern and an essential criterion in the design process of the civil engineering structure. This study refers to the estimation of liquefaction potential of soils by Neuro-Fuzzy models evaluated using Modified Seed’s method. The potential of genetic expression programming (GEP) and Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy (ANFIS) computing paradigm to forecast the safety factor for liquefaction for soils. Modified Seed’s method used for evaluation of liquefaction potential of soils for its better estimation capability compared to other conventional methods. To estimate the liquefaction potential bore log data were obtained from SPT tests conducted at sites. Three hundred twenty five datasets….

Simulink Model of Shunt Active Power Filter Using Instantaneous Power Theory [pp 12-15]
Singh Diksharani, Gupta Sourabh
Abstract: Active Power Filters (APFs) are the fine solution to power quality problems. Shunt active filters allow the compensation of current harmonics, unbalance, together with power factor correction, and can be much better solution than the conventional approach like passive filters. Harmonic reduction is the key word for the proper operation of APF.In this paper, Performance of Shunt active power filter (SAPF) is analyzed for non linear loads by three phase instantaneous power theory method. The system was tested and …

Optimization of the EDM process based on the orthogonal array with Taguchi method [pp 16-27]
Kasdekar Dinesh, Dr. Parashar V., Singh Jasveer, Dr. M.K. Gour
Abstract: Electric discharge machining (EDM) is a widely used unconventional manufacturing process that uses thermal energy of the spark to machine electrically conductive as well as non-conductive parts regardless of the hardness of the work material. This technique has been widely used in modern metal working industry producing complex cavities in dies and moulds, which are otherwise difficult to create by conventional machining. Present research proposes an optimization methodology for the selection of best process parameters in multi-response situation. Regular cutting experiments are carried out on EDM machine under different conditions ….

Modified Active Power Filter for Harmonics Mitigation and …. [pp 28-33]
Parihar Rishika, Sharma Deepti, Suhane Payal
Abstract: This paper presents a comparative study of two controlling techniques using a direct control algorithm for a single phase shunt active power filter. This technique proposes a Modified active power filter control for compensation of current harmonics and the reactive power introduced into the grid by the nonlinear loads. The proposed Modified APF consists of a single-phase voltage source inverter with an energy storage capacitor at dc bus and is connected in shunt mode with load through a filtering inductor. A simple P-I controller is used …..

Harmonic Analysis of Symmetrical and Asymmetrical Inverters [ pp 34-43]
Vani, Kour Paramjeet
Abstract: The multilevel inverter [MLI] is a promising inverter topology for high voltage and high power applications. This inverter synthesizes several different levels of DC voltages to produce a stepped AC output that approaches the pure sine waveform. It has the advantages like high power quality waveforms, lower voltage ratings of devices, lower harmonic distortion, lower switching frequency and switching losses, higher efficiency, reduction of dv/dt stresses etc. It gives the possibility of working with low speed semiconductors ….

Optimal Design of PV-WTG Hybrid Energy System [ pp 44-48]
Uprit J.S., Dr. Shandilya A.M.
Abstract: Hybrid energy system generally consists of a primary energy source working in parallel with standby secondary energy storage units. Hybrid Renewable energy system (HRES) is a combination of one or several renewable resources such as wind, solar, biomass, small/micro hydro, with other technologies such as batteries and fossil fuel powered diesel generator (for backup) to provide electric power. HRES is an excellent solution for electrification of remote rural areas where the grid extension is difficult and not economical. A hybrid renewable energy system may be used to reduce dependency on either conventional energy or renewable system ….
